Counseling for Families & Couples

Stress in relationships results from one or a combination of factors including:

difficulty with communication skills
unrealistic or unclear expectations
abuse
substance use/ abuse
family of origin issues
understanding of mental illness
difficulty accepting differences
adjusting to change

The primary focus of couples and family therapy is the identification of patterns which lead to conflict in relationships. Patterns can be identified in therapy, leading to learning and practicing new and forgotten methods of interacting, enhancing intimacy, and restoring healthy levels of functioning.

Counseling for Children & Adolescents

Children and teens are impacted by circumstantial changes and biological conditions just as adults are, though their symptoms often manifest differently than what we might expect or understand.

Children don't necessarily have the language to describe what they're thinking and feeling. Play therapy allows them to communicate in ways that come naturally to them, enabling them to work through a variety of difficulties.

Teens live in a constant state of change, and often require guidance to learn emotional regulation and coping skills. Skill-building, behavior modification, and social skills training are often components of therapeutic work with children and adolescents.

In working with children, I include caregivers as appropriate to ensure that you, your child's primary support, feel confident in your ability to help your child navigate their changing world.

Group Counseling & Peer Support
Picture
There is healing power in simply relating to other human beings.  Group support offers the opportunity to gain strength and insight from each others' experience, as well as support, education, and guidance from the facilitating clinician.

Groups are offered as interest presents. Most groups will meet weekly for 8-16 sessions. Some examples of groups:

Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Assault
Adolescent/ Teen Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Assault
Partners/ Family of Substance Abusers
Positive Parenting

Please email tjonesrouse@achievebalance-llc.com to inquire about group support opportunities or to discuss your request for a specific group.

Parenting Enrichment
Understanding developmental stages, setting appropriate limits, and communicating in ways your children can understand are important components of building and maintaining healthy, positive relationships between you and your children. Assistance with these skills is provided through group education as well as on an individual/family basis.
